What is LEED?
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally certified mark of excellence for green construction. It aims to recognize those companies who pursue sustainable and environmentally friendly standards of practice. The “greener” your building, the more sustainable it becomes which can lead to benefits down the road e.g energy saving, tax incentives and resale value. It’s split into four categories – certified, silver, gold and platinum.
How does LEED work in demolition and deconstruction?
When a house or commercial building is to be built, everything from the take down and removal of the previous building to the construction of the new building is taken into account when certifying a LEED project.
What 3R tries to achieve is to keep the project’s waste out of the landfill and recycle the waste instead. The more we can keep out of the landfill, the higher recycling / re-use; will provide the overall project the ability to achieve one of the four categories of LEED certification.
